Fuel Prices Skyrocket 4/2004
Fuel Prices continue to skyrocket putting cost pressures on
carriers and shippers. Prices on the west coast have surpassed
$2.30/gallon prompting some carriers to implement a separate fuel
surcharge for shipments originating and delivering on the west
coast. Protesting the high prices are independent truckers and
drivers for intermodal draymen who have staged strikes and shutdown
blockages at various ports and railroad terminals.
Freight
Volumes Surge 4/2004
With the US economy in full swing recovery, freight volumes
surged in first quarter of 2004 causing truck shortages in what is
normally a sluggish time of the year in freight. Demand for
equipment is expected to remain strong throughout the year
especially forth quarter. Equipment supply was extremely tight
last year causing bidding wars among shippers in some regions of the
country. P3 Program Continues to Grow 4/2004
The P3 (Platinum Performance Program) best industry practices
program by TIA continues to grow as shippers and carriers seek ways
to identify the best players in the intermediary market. P3
members include property brokers, domestic freight forwarders, motor
carriers and freight pre-audit/payment companies. Each has pledged
to follow specific best practices for their specific type of business.
