The Twin Modal history – great experience means great expertise

Twin Modal was established in 1977 as Twin City Piggyback, providing services as an intermodal "shipper’s agent."  The company focused on boxcar, trailer (TOFC) and container (COFC) services, and grew rapidly.  In 1980, the company added truck brokerage to its expanding service menu, and began to grow even more rapidly, adding customers from diverse industries and locations.  In 1984, the company changed its name to Twin Modal, in order to more accurately reflect its multiple service offerings.

Much of the company’s early growth occurred under an employee-ownership environment, which fostered a sense of pride and dedication that remains strong today.  Besides a great team, Twin Modal developed great technology, introducing one of the industry’s most advanced process control software system in 1996.  The company’s technology grew to connect its offices, then its carriers, customers, and other supply chain partners – and deliver all that information to our customers in a secure system.

Today, the company has approximately 100 employees in 10 offices nationwide, enabling us to provide a wide array of services to a diverse customer base across the U.S. We work with over 25,000 pre-qualified carries including railroads, truck lines, and other asset-based service providers.
